Witham MP Priti Patel has called on the Government to rethink its support for National Grid’s plans to impose over 100 miles of pylons across the East of England. The National Grid have launched a new consultation on targeted changes to their previous route plans, but Priti has written to the Energy Secretary to demand that they use this delay to rethink their approach and look at alternative models that carry higher levels of public support. The Labour Government is seeking to impose the pylons over the East of England in its desperate attempt to hit Net Zero by 2030 targets, but these plans face widespread opposition with local campaigners proposing alternative options instead.
Priti said: “The National Grid’s plans to cover the countryside in pylons are falling apart and the further consultation taking place will reduce the chances of them delivering this unpopular and unwelcome scheme by 2030. The Labour Government have been backing these plans to destroy our countryside, but they should now have a reality check and take seriously the sensible alternatives local communities have put forward.”
