Priti has been campaigning alongside her colleague and neighbouring MP John Whittingdale to save the medical services currently located at St Peters Hospital in Maldon.
Since the first announcement by the Mid & South Essex ICS that they would be consulting on proposals to move services to other locations within mid and south Essex, Priti has been working with local community campaign groups to oppose these plans and ensure that the vital services are retained within the Maldon District.
St Peter’s Hospital is not just a much-loved local health facility, it is an integral part of life in the Maldon district. After the controversial consultation, the people of Maldon made their voices loud and clear in their opposition to the ICB’s plans.
The announcement in September 2024 that the Mid & South Essex ICS would undertake a six-month delay in making a decision on the future of the site, and establishing a working group with wide range of representatives to develop viable solutions that will meet local healthcare needs and demands, was warmly welcomed.
While this decision and the announcement of a delay is welcome, it is not the end and Priti stands ready to work with the ICB, local council, and the Government to find a lasting local solution to this situation.
